The Manuscript is Moravian University’s literary magazine, highlighting the creative writing of students. I had the opportunity to design both the 2023 and 2024 editions, working on everything from the covers to the editorial layout for each issue. For both editions, I wanted to create a design that felt true to the literary nature of the magazine while also making sure it was adaptable for future issues. I chose a modular design approach, focusing on consistent layouts and grids that could easily be updated as needed. This made sure each issue had a cohesive look but also allowed for flexibility as the magazine evolved. Using interchangeable elements, I built a framework that would support the magazine’s growth while keeping a strong visual identity. This project was a great opportunity to bring my design skills to a meaningful publication, and I’m proud to have helped create a lasting visual identity for The Manuscript that can carry through to future editions. I was able to add one of my own art pieces as well! I wanted the design to complement the poetry and short stories, not overshadow them. My goal was to create a clean, minimalistic layout that allowed the content to shine without being visually distracting. I focused on subtle typography choices and plenty of white space to ensure the writing remained the focal point. By keeping the design simple and refined, I aimed to create a reading experience that was immersive and respectful of the literary work, letting the words take center stage.
